Netflix | The Harder They Fall

We gathered with Netflix to produce promotional stills for the premiere of Netflix original film, The Harder They Fall – An American Western film with a predominantly Black cast.

During the film’s world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, Gather were tasked to build a makeshift studio on location and produce stills, alongside an ongoing event at the festival, with a range of A List talent.

Producing for Nigerian-born British photographer and social activist Misan Harriman, the first Black man to shoot a cover of British Vogue in the magazine's 104-year history, this was an opportunity for Gather to bring together a production and photo team who were representative of the Black and POC community.

As one of few Westerns whose principal cast members are all Black, it was important for Gather to build a team that mirrored this level of inclusion in the crew behind the lens. Over 90% of the crew were from an underrepresented group in our industry.

With rigorous pre-light of location and out of hours build and strike our makeshift studio was seamlessly constructed and dismantled during the wider festival. We worked with an inclusive crew to ensure images were captured on multiple locations with live retouching and uploads to clients in Los Angeles.

During this shoot we captured portraits with Shawn Carter, Idris Elba, Regina King, Jonathan Majors, RJ Cyler and Edi Gathegi, in addition to film director Jeymes Samuel and screenplay co-writer Boaz Yakin.
